INVITATION

The Musée de Charmey is pleased to announce that the 7th International Paper Triennial will be held in Charmey (Gruyère) in Switzerland from 8 May to 2 October 2011. The exhibition preview and prize-giving ceremony will be held on Saturday 7 May 2011. The competition is open to all artists from around the world who use paper to create works of art, whereby the substance is transformed
and is not used solely as a support or vehicle.

The compétition is not themed and registration is free of charge. Participants may submit up to three works dating from 2008 at the latest for consideration by the jury. The exhibition will feature some 60 to 70 works selected by the jury. The selection process will take place in January 2011. The Triennial jury will award three prizes during the exhibition preview.

You are herewith cordially invited to submit works for inclusion in the 7th International Paper Triennial in Charmey. Please find attached the registration form and competition rules. Applicants can register either online or by post. Artists must submit an application pack and registration form for each work they submit. This documentation must reach the Musée de Charmey no later than 15th December 2010.

EXHIBITION RULES

1. Description
The International Paper Triennial is an exhibition open to all artists who use paper to create Works of art, whereby the substance is transformed and is not used merely as a support or vehicle. Artists may submit up to three works. It will then fall to the jury to choose which works will be exhibited at the Musée de Charmey as part of the 7th International Paper Triennial, to be held from 8 May to 2 October 2011.

2. Participation
Artists may submit up to three works for considération by the jury. Three-dimensional works must be less than one cubic metre. Two-dimensional works must be less than one square metre. The maximum height and/or width must not exceed two metres. There is no lower limit. A series of works, such as a diptych or triptych, may be considered as a single work provided that their dimensions conform to the spécifications stipulated above. All submitted works must be recent, completed in 2008 at the latest.

3. Registration
A registration pack must be submitted to the Museum by post or by email before 15 December 2010. No documents will be returned to the artists unless explicitly requested. Submission of a registration pack corresponds to the acceptance of the present rules. To apply, the artist must return the registration form duly completed and provide the following documentation for each work in French, German or English (maximum three A4 pages):

  • the number or code given on the registration form on the cover page (no mention of the author in any part of the registration pack)
  • photos of the work
  • title of the work
  • dimensions of the work in centimetres (metric system only)
  • date when work was completed
  • description of the techniques and material used
  • a thematic explanation of the work (maximum 10 lines)

4. Selection
The decisions of the jury regarding the Works that will go forward to the 7th International Paper Triennial are final. Artists will be personally informed of the jury’s decision either by post or by email before 15 February 2011.

5. Consignment
The works selected to go forward to the 7th International Paper Triennial must reach the Musée de Charmey no later than 25 April 2011. The dispatch of the works to the Musée de Charmey and their return will be at the artist’s expense (transport and insurance costs). The artists may, at their convenience, bring and collect their works, or have them sent and collected by a third party. The works dispatched to the Musée must correspond to those selected by the jury. If not, the artist may be eliminated from the compétition and excluded from the exhibition. The jury alone may take such a decision. The decision of the jury is final.

6. Competition
The International Paper Triennial has three prizes, as well as a prize awarded by the public:
- first prize 4,000 Swiss francs
- second prize 2,000 Swiss francs
- third prize 1,000 Swiss francs
- public prize 500 Swiss francs

A jury comprising museum curators, experts in the fields of graphic and applied arts, as well as members of the press (7 to 9 members) will select the prize-winning works between 30 April and 5 May 2011. The jury is obliged to award the three prizes and cannot share one prize among several artists. The prize-winning artists will be notified in person beforehand. All decisions by the jury are final and will not be the subject of an appeal or legal proceedings of any kind. For the duration of the exhibition the public will be invited to vote on their favourite exhibit. A ballot box will be provided in the museum for this purpose.

7. Exhibition
The selected artists will take part in the exhibition, to be held from 8 May to 2 October 2011 at the Musée de Charmey. The museum will mount the exhibition and artists are asked to include directions on how their work should be displayed. The prize-giving ceremony will be held on Saturday 7 May 2011 as part of the exhibition preview. The public prize will be announced and presented to the winner on Sunday 2 October 2011. To accompany the Triennial, the museum will produce a colour exhibition catalogue featuring all selected works. The artists should provide (postselection) a good quality photo of their work. Each artist will receive three copies of the catalogue free of charge. Additional copies may be purchased at a preferential rate.
